Scott Underwood, CDO

Scott Underwood is the Chief Development Officer and Principal for Prominence Homes and Communities. He specializes in transactions that pump life-blood into home-building companies, employing his vast knowledge of local markets to help Prominence meet the challenges of the ever-changing build-for-rent (BFR) market.

Led by Scott’s knowledge of build-to-rent, Prominence has grown significantly over the past several years. The Birmingham Business Journal named Prominence “the third fastest growing company in Birmingham” for 2021, and the company’s revenue has increased by over 200% in the last two years.

Scott joined and became the Principal of Prominence Homes in 2014, bringing over twenty years of experience in real estate acquisitions, dispositions, and marketing. His time in the industry has taught him the ins and outs of large home-building companies. He has played a critical role in over $1 billion in transactions; this history of success led the Greater Birmingham Association of Homebuilders to name him “builder of the year” for 2018.

Prior to joining Prominence Homes, Scott worked as a managing broker for Realty South’s Builder and Developer Services, a Berkshire Hathaway Company. He moved into the industry in 1998 and serves as second vice chair for the greater Birmingham Association of Homebuilders where he is in line to serve as president.

When not working in real estate, Scott has served as co-chairman for the Hoover, Alabama Planning and Zoning Board and as chairman for the Hoover Commercial Development Authority. He also holds a position on the board of the Alabama Aerospace & Aviation High School (AAHS), a public charter located in Bessemer, Alabama.

He studied general business at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
